As DoD continues to grow their "e-governance" initiatives and solutions, more Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is available and must be protected. This information can be used to uniquely identify, contact, or locate a single person or can be used with other sources to uniquely identify a single individual. PII is collected, stored and potentially made available to the public and other government agencies through various government websites. It is reasonable for a citizen to assume their private information is secure and their driver's license, social security and other personal information is safe and secure from outside sources.
Additionally, foreign countries and hackers are constantly attempting to exploit our systems. Targeted attacks against vulnerable software or other applications is increasing at an alarming rate.
According to data taken from a targeted detection-monitoring network that tracked 200 million sessions, 73-percent of all the attacks were classified as takeovers. After that, 11-percent represented Data Theft (SQL Injection), 16-percent were linked to Credential Theft (Cross-Site Scripting), and lastly vulnerability scanning was detected.
The U.S. generated the highest volume of attack traffic followed by China and Russia.
To comply with PII regulations and standards, including Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) and others, AGILITECH’s Information Assurance services range from providing critical security controls that protect against attacks and assist in the development of secure and vetted risk management programs and policies.
